Hack Weight — a skip's scorebook for club curling

Last updated October 2, 2026

The short version

Hack Weight does not collect, transmit, or share any data about you, your team, or your games — ever. Everything you enter (scores, lineups, hammer, shot notes, bonspiel draws) and every photo you take (measures, player photos) is stored only on your own device. Nothing leaves your phone or iPad, and there is no server for it to go to.

No data collection No accounts No analytics No ads No third-party SDKs No tracking

What Hack Weight stores, and where

All information you create in Hack Weight is saved locally on your device, and nowhere else:

  • Preferences (theme, haptics, sound, league defaults, glove-text size) are saved in Apple's standard on-device settings storage (UserDefaults).
  • Game records — scores, ends, hammer, lineups, shot notes, bonspiel entries and draw sheets — are saved as local files on your device.
  • Photos you take of a close measure in the house, and photos you choose for a player's profile, are saved as local image files on your device.

None of this is backed up to any service we operate, because we don't operate one. If you use iCloud or iTunes/Finder device backups, that backup is controlled by Apple and by you, not by Hack Weight — the app itself never sends anything anywhere.

Camera and photo library

Hack Weight asks for two permissions, both used only to help you keep score:

  • Camera — used only if you choose to photograph a close measure in the house, so you have a record of the call. The photo is saved directly to your device; it is never uploaded.
  • Photo Library — used only if you choose to pick an existing photo for a measure or for a player's profile picture. Hack Weight only reads the single photo you select; it does not browse, scan, or upload your library.

You can deny or revoke either permission at any time in Settings → Hack Weight; the app will simply offer to let you type notes instead of attaching a photo.

The Club Page (in-app web view)

The Club Page tab includes a simple in-app browser. By default it can show two fixed, offline rules references (the curling.ca and worldcurling.org rules pages). If you choose to add your own club's website address, that one in-app browser tab will load the page you typed.

Hack Weight does not control, and this policy does not cover, what any outside website you navigate to does with information while you're viewing it. Visiting a site you've chosen is like opening it in any browser: it's a site you choose to visit, outside our control, subject to that site's own privacy practices. We recommend checking the privacy policy of your club's website if you have questions about it.

No third parties, no ads, no analytics

Hack Weight has no sign-in, no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics, and no third-party software development kits of any kind. There is nothing in the app that could collect or transmit data even if it wanted to — there's simply no networking code for your records, scores, or photos.

Children's privacy

Hack Weight is a scorekeeping tool for curling clubs and is not directed at children. In any case, because the app collects no data from any user, regardless of age, there is no personal information collected from children or from anyone else.

Deleting your data

Since everything lives only on your device, deleting your data is simple: uninstall Hack Weight. Removing the app removes its local records and photos along with it. There is no account to close and no copy stored anywhere else for us to delete, because nothing was ever sent to us in the first place.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, we'll update the date below and post the revised version at this same address. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
